VDI & Digital Workplace – automated workspace provisioning and software distribution
Standardised, secure and reproducible workspaces from a defined desired state.
Whitepaper (German, PDF) – VDI & PAW white paper, opens in a new tabThe solution combines VDI provisioning, centralised software distribution and Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) into one end-to-end process for standardised, secure and reproducible workspaces. An approved and hardened Golden Image forms the technical basis. Depending on the user role, group membership and defined VDI profile, the appropriate virtual workspace is generated from it automatically. The intended applications, configurations, security policies and updates are then deployed automatically.
The result is not a manually maintained individual workstation but a defined desired state that can be reproduced at any time. The Golden Image, resource profile, core applications, approved additional applications, security policies and update level are centrally controlled and documented.
Automated initial provisioning
Automated initial provisioning includes, among other things:
- selection of the appropriate Golden Image and resource profile,
- creation or assignment of the VDI instance,
- joining the domain,
- enrolment in UEM,
- automatic installation of approved software packages, policies and updates,
- reporting of status and errors, and
- delivery of the workspace in the defined desired state.
Self-service, approvals and licence reclamation
Additional applications can be requested via a self-service and approval process. Depending on the role, licence situation and security requirements, approvals can be single- or multi-stage. Once approved, the software is assigned and installed automatically. Applications that are no longer needed can be withdrawn through the same controlled process, and their licences returned to the available pool.
A unified lifecycle for virtual and physical workspaces
Changes, updates and the rebuilding of a workspace are also managed against the defined desired state. When a VDI is recreated, it again receives the approved Golden Image, the appropriate profile and the intended applications and policies. This reduces dependence on manual individual configurations, and workspace quality remains consistent throughout the entire lifecycle. The same basic UEM process can also be used for physical Windows workstations, so the provisioning and management of virtual and physical end devices can be mapped within one common workplace concept.
Your benefits
Standardised workspaces, significantly less manual administration, controlled software distribution, traceable approval processes and a reproducible IT environment of consistent quality.
